Microsoft 365 Copilot Wave 2: what do you need to know?

It was Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella himself who announced the launch of Microsoft 365 Copilot Wave 2 announced. This event once again highlighted Microsoft's commitment to further integrate AI into the daily work process of millions of users worldwide. Below, we summarise the most important news for you.

Microsoft 365 Copilot: Wave 2

About a year and a half after the initial launch Microsoft organised a online event to present a range of new Copilot functionalities. The fact that 50,000 people have already viewed the event within 24 hours shows how timely and relevant Copilot is for (future) users.

Microsoft speaks of 150 (!) new features associated with this update. We limit ourselves below to the 5 most important novelties:

1. Copilot Pages

One of the most notable new features is Copilot Pages. An innovative AI-driven canvas that promotes seamless collaboration within teams. Users can collaborate in real-time on documents and projects, with Copilot helping to gather relevant information from your company data and/or the web:

2. Copilot in PowerPoint

The 'Narrative Builder' for Copilot in PowerPoint helps users quickly build a presentation from a simple prompt. This new tool lets you generate a full deck of slides, including transitions and notes for the speaker.

The biggest difference from 'Wave 1′ is that you can now make unlimited changes or additions before Copilot actually generates the slides for you. This means you have full control over the structure of your presentation and can keep iterating and making adjustments. Only when everything is exactly to your liking will Copilot create the final slides based on your input, providing more flexibility and creative freedom:

3. Copilot in Excel

During our last Copilot in Action Workshop we already told our participants that Copilot in Excel has been significantly improved in recent months. From now on, users can also perform complex data analyses using Python, without needing any programming knowledge:

4. Copilot in Outlook

We can also expect some new Copilot functionalities in Outlook. With the 'Prioritise My Inbox' option, users can now more easily filter the most important e-mails and receive summaries. Ideal for colleagues in need of a more organised and well-organised inbox:

5. Copilot Agents

Thanks to Copilot Studio we were able to build our own Copilots before. For certain applications - such as SharePoint Online, Dynamics 365 Sales, Dynamics 365 Field Service... - Microsoft is now making it even easier for us thanks to Copilot Agents. These are pre-built AI assistants designed to automate specific business processes. These agents can autonomously perform tasks such as creating support tickets or sending e-mails:

Better performance thanks to GPT-4o

Finally, with Copilot Wave 2, Microsoft has not only introduced new features but also significantly improved Copilot's performance. One of the most significant changes is the transition to the GPT-4o model. This not only results in a faster response (2x faster), it also improves accuracy. This ultimately ensures increased satisfaction, especially in complex tasks.
